First-ever Common Entrance Test for MBBS & BDS (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - NEET) on May 5, 2013

The first-ever common entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country will be conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on May 5, 2013.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will cater to admissions in all the government and private medical and dental colleges in the country on the basis of its merit list.

With this, the All-India PMT exam held earlier along with other state medical entrance exams would not be held now and this NEET-UG will substitute all previous tests.

There are a total of 355 recognised medical colleges in the country in which the admissions to MBBS courses will be held on the basis of the common merit list of NEET-UG.

Besides, the reservation of seats in medical and dental colleges in respective categories will be as per applicable laws prevailing in states/Union Territories.

The CBSE will be conducting the NEET in English, Hindi and those regional languages in which the tests were held earlier.

The syllabus for this examination has already been notified by the Medical Council of India (MCI) earlier: http://www.mciindia.org/NEET/NEETUG.aspx
