The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Monday launched an indigenous device that can detect early cervical cancer and be used even by healthcare workers with basic training.

AV Magnivisualizer, which was developed by the Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), has 95 per cent accuracy for detecting pre-cancerous lesions. Randomised clinical control trials have confirmed its efficacy in reducing incidence and mortality. It can be made available in remote rural areas.

Avoid the term ‘rape’ in medical reports, DHR tells doctors

The guidelines on treatment of sexual assault victims issued by the Department of Health Research advise healthcare facilities not to turn them away and doctors not to use the term 'rape' in their medical reports as it is a legal definition and does not constitute medical diagnosis.

The opinion of doctors must be evidence-based.

It is now mandatory for the forensic medical report to state precisely the reasons for each conclusion.

A great doctor & an excellent human being

Professor Dr. K.V. Thiruvengadam — KVT for short — these three alphabets, firmly bound together, simply cast a mesmerising spell on the world's medical fraternity.

His methodical patient-centric approach, his concern for the poor, his strict adherence to medical ethics and his sacred commitment to mass transfer all his wisdom to the young aspirants around are something phenomenal
